Otte
Otte was a Major of the Vervun Primary. Active during the Sabbat Worlds Crusade, he served as Marshal Croe's adjutant in the Siege of Vervunhive.[1a]
Biography
In the course of the Third Zoican Storm of Vervunhive, the hive's energy shields failed due to the corruption of the hive's High Master, Salvador Sondar. When this happened, Marshal Croe was leading a corps of reinforcements to the front lines of the Siege. Although Croe wanted to return to the hive's Main Spire to confront Sondar and get the shield back online, he realised that to turn back at that point would destroy the defenders' morale. He stood and fought even as the Zoican hordes overran the Sondar Gate, dying in the fighting.[1a] Otte was one of the few to make it back to the command centre alive, carrying Croe's sword, to present the weapon to whomever succeeded the Marshal. Otte would complete his task, giving the weapon to Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt, the highest-ranked Imperial officer still alive and willing to fight to defend the hive.[1b]
Otte managed to survive the Siege. In the closing stages of the campaign, he coordinated with Colonels Corbec and Bulwar to drive the remaining Zoican infantry from Vervunhive.[1c]
