Phton IV is an Continental World and the third planet of the Gartrafal's Calamity System in the Cinerus Maleficum region of the Koronus Expanse. Days and nights on the world each last half a year.[1]
Excavation
In M42, under the directive of Lord Inquisitor Xavier Calcazar, an Adeptus Historica mission was established on the world to study the origins of the civilisation that once inhabited the planet; to determine which human Colony Ship they came from and why they disappeared. This resulting in archaeological digging deep into the surface of the planet.[1]

The ancient culture proved to have primitive solar faiths similar to Chaos Worship. While cataloging this information, Drukhari Mandrakes attacked, killing the last Astropath capable of sending requests for help and laying the planet under siege, slowly killing them through attrition. This caused the lead Inquisition researcher, Emelina Lichtenhart, to reach out to her colleagues while using Chaos rituals to forge a new sun. She rationalizes the decision by claiming to follow Oblationism using the Lord Inquisitor's following of Xenos Hybris as justification for her radicalism.[1]
