Portan is the current Captain of the Genesis Chapter's Second Company and a Tetrarch of Ultramar.[1]

History

At the conclusion of the Indomitus Crusade, he and his Chapter were among the Imperium's forces that Lord Commander Guilliman led to Ultramar's defence, during the Plague Wars. Later, during a strategy meeting on Macragge, Guilliman discussed not only how they would defeat Nurgle's forces that were infesting Ultramar, but also the Realm's future. The Lord Commander stated he had made a mistake by decreasing Ultramar's size in the aftermath of the Horus Heresy and now planned to make it even larger than it once was. In order to ensure this would take place, Guilliman reinstated the rank of Tetrarch and chose Portan to be one of its members. Though Portan felt unworthy of the title, Guilliman claimed that the Captain's efforts to rebuild the devastated worlds of the Diamat Cluster four centuries ago, proved that he had all the qualities the position required. Portan then accepted and he was given command of the world Andermung, from where he would do whatever was necessary to expand Ultramar's southern territories. Guilliman also claimed that Portan would keep his rank of Captain and asked his Chapter Master, Eorloid, to add another Captain to the Genesis Chapter's ranks, who would command Portan's Company.[1]

During the Ultramarian Reclamation, Portan led the southern front from Andermung.[2]

  • 500 Worlds: Titus states that Portan is a member of the Doom Eagles.[2a] Another passage in the book lists him as Genesis Chapter.[2b] Possibly this is the result of someone mixing up Portan and his fellow Tetrarch, Balthus.
