Praetorate

The Praetorate or Ancients of the Legion, was the Senior Staff Officer Cadre in the Legions during the Great Crusade. It stood right below the Primarch in the chain of command of a Legion, as per the principles adapted by the Emperor from the Principia Belicosa.[1a]
It was composed of the Lord Commanders of the Legion[1b], who were themselves of a Praetor rank.[1c]
