Psykhanium
The Psykhanium are specialised training facilities used by the Imperium of Man. These facilities utilise a powerful psyker and unspecified technology to induce visions of combat in the mind of the trainee against a wide range of foes.[1a]
The center of the facility can have a transparent cylinder housing the psyker, typically a powerful telepath, who's mind is connected to machines via tubes and cables. The psyker will conjure visions in the minds of trainees, creating fake combat experiences with very realistic pain.[1a] Through the facility's many convoluted tubes and screens, outside observes can view this combat training.[1b] The cylindrical housing chamber for the psyker is frosted over. The chamber housing the device contains a light flurry of snow.[1] This isn't uncommon for powerful warp manifestations to drop the local temperature significantly.[3]
A Psykhanium facility is found aboard the Rogue Trader vessel known as the Mourningstar. Within the chamber is found Sefoni, a unique and formidable telepath serving Inquisitor Grendyl of the Ordo Hereticus.[2] Sefoni's Psykhanium is used to train both Grendyl's warband and the Rogue Trader's voidsmen.[1c] She can provide a variety of simulations, such as a shooting range, with minimal effort. More complex combat trials can be simulated, but this takes some degree of effort on Sefoni's part and can be quite straining. The Inquisitor will sometimes observe these rigorous training sessions, referred to as Mortis Trials. If an acolyte dies during one of these relentless training gauntlets even Sefoni is unsure whether the acolyte survives in the real world.[1b]
