Purging of the Ymgarl Moons
The Purging of the Ymgarl Moons was a battle between the Tyranids and Salamanders Chapter from 754-756.M41. It is most notable for being the first known appearance of Ymgarl Genestealers.[1]
Overview
After the Tyranids invade the Imperium, and the Salamanders are given the duty by the High Lords of Terra themselves to purge the moons of Ymgarl of a suspected Genestealer infestation. The Salamanders root out their prey by using alkem-weapons to burn away the moons atmosphere and destroy its vast jungles then advance in a Termite tunnel craft to explore below its surface. In this dreaded underworld, the Salamanders encounter the new strain of Ymgarl Genestealers and appallingly powerful Brood Lords. Taking heavy losses to these deadly and quick foes, the Salamanders fight back with their flame and melta weapons in a bloody two year campaign.[9]
