Redsnot
Redsnot is one of the fortunate Gretchin, who over the years, has taken up the mantle of the legendary Da Red Gobbo.[1h]
History
Redsnot was an ambitious Grot, always keen to maintain his position as second-in-command to his Runtherd, Killaskun, a position that earned him few friends and many enemies (as short as their lifespans tended to be). Therefore when the Ork was killed by an unidentified assailant in a church dedicated to the Blood Angels Primarch Sanguinius, he felt the accumulated resentment of his fellow Grotz bear down upon him as a mortal danger and realised he had to take control of the situation.[1b] Redsnot continued to vie for supremacy with his rival Gitzit while the place was assailed by the largely incompetent auxiliary forces of the True Sons of Lorgar, under the command of traitor Commissar Marvarry.[1c]
It was only after the mutant abomination Gristle broke into the church, assaulting Redsnot and his Grotz that Da Red Gobbo appeared, flying through a stained glass depiction of Sanguinius. Da Gobbo dislodged Gristle with a single shot, enabling the beast to be incinerated on the promethium-flooded ground floor.[1d] Redsnot was a less than gracious host, plotting to kill this interloper challenging his authority. However, Da Gobbo was wily and redirected Redsnot's murderous scheme onto the cultists as they made a second attempt to seize the church.[1e]
Redsnot's plan to shower hot wax and broken glass onto the heretics worked well and they were bombarded by prayer stones and debris before the Gretchin retreated up the bell tower.[1f]
Now faced with impending doom and nowhere left to run, Redsnot and his rivals found themselves no longer at each other's throats, the fates of each Grot now aligned.[1g][1h]
After raining down everything they had on the cultists climbing towards them, the Grotz finally discovered a way to reach safety and almost every one of them still alive managed to zip down to the church roof, save Redsnot and Da Gobbo. The two Gretchin worked together to see off the last remaining enemy, Commissar Marvarry himself, but time had run out for Da Gobbo, for his exertion had opened an old wound. As he faded away, he explained to a reluctant Redsnot that a Grot doesn't choose to become Da Red Gobbo, it chooses him. Redsnot eventually accepted the new mantle, taking Da Gobbo's clothes, equipment and identity.[1h] The troops succeeded in reaching terra firma in time to ambush the Orks that had formerly been their masters, as, thanks to little Migiz, the church exploded with the rest of the promethium.[1i]
