Sanguinary Ancient

A Sanguinary Ancient is a member of the Sanguinary Guard that carries their Chapter Standard to battle.[1]

They are chosen, before each conflict, by a council of their peers for the honour of doing so, as the Chapter Standard is only brought to war in time of great need. The sight of such a wondrous relic being cared by the Sanguinary Ancient, however, inspires warriors of the Imperium to turn crushing defeats into glorious victories.[1]
