Sansom & Sansom

This article includes as a source one the three Black Library novels reissued under the now-defunct Heretic Tomes banner (Farseer, Pawns of Chaos, Space Marine) which, per the Publication Disclaimer, contained material considered outdated or inconsistent with established background lore. The banner has not appeared since 2016, leaving the status of these works uncertain – except for Space Marine whose description now labels it a “curiosity.”

History

Sansom & Sansom was founded millennia before M41, and was run by Merchant Princes. Sansom & Sansom had offices on Crowe's World,^[1b] including a Scribe's Building.^[1a]

The orphan Janus Darke was apprenticed to the Crowe's World Trader Houses, and was given a job as a clerk at Sansom & Sansom. After he led the defenders during the Siege of Crowe's Town, Sansom & Sansom's senior partners saw potential in Darke, and rapidly promoted him. They agreed to give him command of his own ship and force of mercenaries, and underwrote his application for a Rogue Trader Charter, along with the costs of his first voyage, which he repaid more than tenfold.^[1a]
