Sarcophagus of the First Fabricator General
(Redirected from Sarcophagus of the First Fabricator-General)The Sarcophagus of the first Fabricator General is an ancient Mechanicum relic, that contains the preserved last fragments of wisdom from Mars' first Fabricator General.[1]
History
Though the relic is a technological marvel, the Sarcophagus is not valued for its destructive capacity. Instead, it is respected as a symbol for the authority that Mars' current Fabricator General commands. It was for this reason, that the Incursus-Lambda-Psi Skitarii Conclave sought to seize the Sarcophagus from the Mechanicum's relic vaults on the moon Phobos, during the twelve hour of the Schism of Mars. The civil war had been launched by Mars' Fabricator General Kelbor-Hal, who had sided with the traitorous Warmaster Horus, who began the Horus Heresy against the Imperium. However, the Incursus saw Kelbor-Hal's actions as a betrayal of the Mechanicum and the Conclave threw its support to Mars' Loyalist Fabricator-Locum Zagreus Kane. Thus giving the Sarcophagus to Kane would be a boon to his standing and to the Imperium as well.[1]
But in order to secure the relic, the Incursus would have to wage battle against the Vigilus-Alpha-Omega Skitarii Conclave, which defended Phobos. With time of the essence, the Incursus chose to sacrifice a majority of its Conclave, by launching a feint attack that was aimed at the Moon's central vaults. These contained Phobos' most dangerous weapons and relics, which the Vigilus Conclave suspected was the target of the Incursus' attack. However, the Sarcophagus lay within a rarely visited tertiary vault, which only had a small ceremonial guard to defend it. Thus while Vigilus' might was focused on the main vaults' defense, a smaller Incursus force, composed of its elite warriors, were able to claim the Sarcophagus. Though most of the Incursus Conclave was destroyed by the Vigilus, its survivors were able to escape aboard their shuttles, as Phobos' defenders were reluctant to risk harming the Sarcophagus. Incursus' shuttles then made their way to Terra, where the Conclave's remaining warriors presented the relic to Fabricator-Locum Zagreus Kane and the Emperor's court.[1]
