Sartana was the Lord of the corrupted Knights of Lupus, which was a Knightly organisation that dwelled on ancient Caliban.[1]
History
Their downfall began, when the Knights made an alliance with the spirit of Caliban, in order to survive the Great Beasts that haunted their world. The Knights believed they could control the spirit, however, like so many other groups had before them, they became corrupted and began worshiping Chaos. When Sartana became the Knights' Lord, he began to increase their knowledge of Chaos, by gathering a great library of ancient tomes from across Caliban. However after Sartana and the Knights were destroyed by The Order, for refusing to join their quest to wipe out the Great Beasts, his library was taken by The Order's second-in-command Luther. Luther would show their corrupted content to The Order's Lord, Lion El'Jonson, who ordered Luther to destroy them at once. However Luther refused to do so and instead began to secretly study the Chaos knowledge Sartana's tomes contained. This was one of the decisions that corrupted Luther and later caused him to betray the Imperium, during the Horus Heresy, and led to Caliban's destruction.[1]
