Scarrix was the Night Lords commander of the Legion's Scythe Claw Xiphon Interceptor squadron. He took part in the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy.[1a]

History

The Scythe Claw was among the Night Lords' forces that fought in the Dropsite Massacre and were stationed aboard the Carrion Call. Just prior to deploying to Isstvan V, Scarrix talked with his fellow squadron member Uresh, about the Massacre. Uresh claimed they were going to have a feast, as the unsuspecting Loyalists had given their locations to their false allies. But Scarrix stated over the squadron's vox network, that Uresh would be a bigger fool than the commander thought, if he relied on that information. Once the Massacre began, Scarrix said the Scythe Claw needed to be hungry to succeed in the murder that would follow. If Uresh followed some plan based on the information the Loyalists had provided, then the pilot would only find his grave on Isstvan V.[1a]

Shortly afterwards, the Scythe Claw deployed to the world and took part in the Dropsite Massacre. Scarrix though, would mark the first target the squadron would attack and warned the others he would harm anyone who tried to fire before him. With that, the squadron commander destroyed a wounded Knight Lancer and the resulting explosion killed the Raven Guard that were near it.[1b] With their first kill confirmed, Scarrix allowed the Scythe Claw to split off in pairs and he made Megresh his wingman. The squadron commander then killed numerous Loyalists, including shooting down an escaping Imperial Army transport. His attack caused the full transport to crash and explode amidst the Troopers that had been trying to board it. By that point, Scarrix's ammo was low and he believed he had spilled enough blood to satisfy anyone who checked his kills.[1c]

He had planned on disengaging after using the last of his ammo, but the commander then spotted the Thunderhawk of the Raven Guard Captain Alvarex Maun. This was just as Maun had performed a dangerous extraction amidst a horde of Word Bearers. The sight made Scarrix grin, as he thought the Captain would only perform such a move to save the Raven Guard's Primarch, Corvus Corax. The mere chance that this could be true, made the squadron commander target the Thunderhawk, as the Primarch's death would further elevate Scarrix's status. He wanted his kill to be up close and personal, so the commander sped off in pursuit of Maun's Thunderhawk and left his wingman, Megresh, behind. This allowed Maun to escape from Scarrix, after the Captain evaded the squadron commander's fire. But because Scarrix had tried to shoot the Thunderhawk down, Maun believed the commander did not have any missiles left. This led the Captain to flee into a nearby mountain range, where he would then attempt to reach orbit.[1c]

With his chance of killing Corax slipping by, Scarrix pursued the Thunderhawk and prepared to launch his last missile at it. Before he could do so, though, Maun fired his remaining ammo at the commander, which damaged Scarrix's Xiphon Interceptor. The squadron commander then launched his missile moments later, which succeeded in hitting the Raven Guard Thunderhawk. The resulting explosion caused Maun's aircraft to crash[1c] and led to the Captain's death.[1d] But the damage Maun inflicted upon Scarrix's Interceptor proved to be too severe and it could no longer stay in the air. This forced the commander to spiral down onto a nearby plateau.[1c]
