The Second Battle of Damnos, also known as the Second Damnosian War, was fought between the Imperium and Necrons in 999.M41.[1]

Overview

Twenty-five years after the original Necron conquest of the world, Marneus Calgar returned at the head of a massive force of Ultramarines, Imperial Guard, and Deathwatch. Though the Imperials suffered punishing casualties, they kept pushing despite the Necrons rising from the earth time and time again. As the battle reached its height the Necrons under their leader, the Necron Lord known as The Undying, unleashed the might of their Baleful Necropolis, a tomb complex which emits devastating blasts of entropic energy.[1]

Only the desperate actions of Calgar himself saw the Necropolis destroyed and the Transcendent C'tan within set loose from its cage. Utter carnage followed, as the wrathful god was unleashed by both armies. Only a well-timed Vortex Grenade by Cato Sicarius was able to obliterate the C'tan entirely. In the aftermath the worlds Necrons were laid low, their leaders slain and their resurrection made impossible through the destruction of their stasis-crypts.[1]
