Snotlings, or simply Snots, are a diminuitive Orkoid species.[1a]

Orkoid Species

Snotlings are the smallest of the Greenskin races, they are only marginally more intelligent than dogs – and share an almost puppy-like trust and enthusiasm with life.[3] Snotlings are smaller than even the smallest of Gretchin, which they resemble closely[2] and occupy what is perhaps the lowest rung of Ork society, more akin to pets than citizens. Snotlings can be trained to perform all manner of tasks, such as tending to Squigs and harvesting fungi, and are often put to such tasks as Orks would rather avoid Gnasher Squigs and poisoned fungus.[3] Snotlings have a closer bond to the fungus than any of the other Greenskins, and even left untended by Runtherds will grow great patches of the substance.[1a]

Where Snotlings spring up, soon the Runtherds will follow, grizzled slavers which manage the Snotlings themselves and press them into service tasks,[1a] and pit them against one another in mock battles for some reward.[4] While their tiny limbs are incapable of bearing weapons larger than a knife, and they lack the violent tendencies that make for good soldiers, Snotlings are nonetheless pressed to the front lines,[1a] under the false pretence that treats lie behind enemy lines. Where routed they claw like cornered wild-cats.[3] Because of their persistence when cornered, Snotlings are often used as ammunition in a Shokk Attack Gun, being sent through a warp tunnel created by the weapon as Warp-maddened "live ammunition".[1b]

Origins

Snotlings are remembered in Ork oral histories as being the degenerate descendants of the "Lost Race" of Brain Boyz, the super-intelligent progenitors of the Ork and Gretchin which invented the vast majority of Orkish technology and genetically engineered the other Orkoid species, but that through some great tragedy devolved to forever live in a physically and mentally under-developed state.[1a][2] Whatever the truth, they are undoubtedly related to the other Orkoid species and grow from the same spores.[3]
