Somneft is a dormant Necron Tomb World of rad-washed wastes and dusty chasms, which lies in the Nephilim Sector.[1]

History

Located on the fringes of the Sautekh Dynasty, it served as a border fortress in the time before the Great Sleep. During the millions of slumbering for its inhabitants, Somneft endured asteroid impacts and solar flares as the Necron structures on the surface slowly crumbled away. However beneath its surface, the sleepless master program held vigil over its slumbering Necron population, dealing with any threat to them that arose. However even this became eroded over time, along with much of the Tomb World's core power systems. By M38, the deteriorating program became desperate and prematurely activated the Cryptek Amhetra the Hierarchitectron to try and stabilize the situation. Amhetra set about restoring the Tomb World's core systems over the next several thousand years. Over the millennia however the Cryptek also began to act increasingly eccentric, engaging in arcane experiments and incorporating the slumbering Necron population into morbid murals. Amhetra was eventually able to circumvent the master program, accessing its quantum communication technologies to learn of events in nearby systems. Amhetra soon sought to actively to prevent the reawakening of Somneft's nobility in order to stop them from usurping her power, and also sought out ancient technological artifacts to expand her capabilities to that of a Demi-God.[2]

Upon the formation of the Great Rift and Szarekh's Pariah Nexus, Somneft became caught up in the wider Nephilim War. The Deathwatch Watch Fortress Prescience under Watch Master Hasandron Numas became concerned about Somneft's reawakening, and dispatched Kill Team Promus and Kill Team Vaskovian to the world to deal with the threat. Amhetra quickly sought to contain the situation and respond to the intruders.[2]
