The Sotharan League is a region of space within the Imperium. It is focused around the world of Sotha in the eastern portion of Ultima Segmentum.[1a]

History

Historically, the Sotharan League was a collection of worlds protected and overseen by the Scythes of the Emperor Space Marine Chapter from Sotha. It was originally created to protect the area from Night Lords operating out of Tsagualsa in the aftermath of the Horus Heresy and was in a key strategic region on the Imperium's eastern border.[1f] However in M41, the League was infiltrated by Genestealer Cults, who embedded themselves in the Sotharan nobility to disable much of its defenses. This paved the way for the Tyranid Hive Fleet Kraken to ravage Sotha and the worlds of the Sotharan League during the Second Tyrannic War, nearly destroying the Scythes of the Emperor as well.[1b] Tetrarch Decimus Felix oversaw much of the reconstruction of the league from the Ultramar eastern capital of Vespator.[1a]

In M42 at the dawn of the Indomitus Crusade, Belisarius Cawl arrived on Sotha on order of Roboute Guilliman and pledged to help resurrect the Scythes of the Emperor as well as the Sotharan League, though his primary personal concern was researching the Pharos.[1a] During their studies, Cawl and the Scythes came into conflict with a Genestealer Cult infestation and all of the Firstborn of the Chapter were killed purging it.[1c] However the Scythes were refounded in the Ultima Founding and the orbital Space Station Aegida was brought back into operation, giving the League a chance of returning to its former glory as Cawl terraformed its planets to once again support life.[1d]
