The most common aircraft used by the Orks, Fighta-Bommerz represent all the love of the Orks: Speed, Guns, and Noise. Fighta_Bommerz Fighta-Bommerz are created by the few Meks who are interested in aircraft. The Mek will normally start out trying to build a specific type of aircraft but will soon become indecisive and hammer on as many guns, engines and wotsits as possible. The resulting aircraft is as good as dogfighting as it is bombing targets on the ground, hence the name. Fighta-Bommerz are normally armed with Big Shootas, supa-rokkits and Bombz. As with all Ork vehicles Fighta-Bommerz are kit-bashed affairs that usually defy the laws of aerodynamics, and fly despite their ungainly, brutish construction. The standard Fighta-Bommer is armed with three Big Shootas and the clever "Grot Bomb". It relies on its heavy armament and reinforced armor plating to make up for its lack of speed and maneuverability when compared to other aircraft1. HistoryThe uses for the Ork Fighta-Bommer are rather limited. While generally more durable, the craft is easily outclassed by similar craft flown by the Imperial Navy, the Tau Air Caste, or the Eldar fleets. Throughout the Dawn of War campaigns the Fighta-Bommerz made frequent appearances as a Courier Dropship which dropped the various gubbins needed to assemble Ork base structures2. Orkamungus used the Fighta-Bommer in this role, as did Warlord Gorgutz 'Ead 'Unta on Lorn V. On Kronus, Gorgutz fought to control an ancient Adeptus Mechanicus relay station, merged with Tau technology3. By plotting courses that avoided the crossfire of the Tau and Imperial fleets battling in orbit, Gorgutz was able to use Fighta-Bommerz to make strikes deep into the territory held by his enemies. Finally in the Kaurava system, Warlord Gorgutz would actually use the craft in a limited combat role as an aerial support unit4. While the Evil Suns clan has some apprieciation for the craft due to its blistering speed5, Grogutz remains the only Warboss known to use the Fighta-Bommerz in this way. The most famous Fighta-Bommer is the dreaded "Vulcha", one of the oldest and longest serving of its kind. This is the personal courier of the Infamous Boss Zagstruk, leader of the elite "Vulcha Squad"6. These Stormboyz used their aging Fighta-Bomma to make deep strikes onto enemy positions by reckessly jumping from the Vulcha's bomb bays and firing their Rokkit Packs at the last minute. The tactical advantages of this maneuvre (barring any Rokkit-related mishaps) may seem fairly obvious, but they haven't been adopted by other Stormboy units, most likely because of the difficulty of retaining Meks with the skill needed to build a functioning Fighta-Bommer7.
