The Greater Good, or Tau'va (lit. Good Greater), is something all the founding principle of Tau strive forsociety. The Tau'va system is based on Castes and is designed to allow for the advacement of the entire Tau society togethertowards a more successful, prosperous and easier existance in the future.
The Greater Good was first introduced to the Tau during the Mont'au(lit. Death Age), a civil war. It was during this time that the first time the Ethereals came to the Tau and succeeded in uniting united the Tau tribes under their common principle, the common Greater Good. This plan involved perfect harmony and combinations of each Castes strenghts to counter the many weaknesses their culture had.
Within a few years, Tau culture had become dominated by the Greater Good and they began the long march towards technological advancement. The Greater Good now guides the Tau in their conquest of the galaxy. The principle forces the Tau into a two-minded state, one to expand their empire for the Greater Good, and to absorb other cultures into their own, which could have disastrous effects. The idea of the Greater Good is appealing to many races, and thousands of Imperial Guard soldiers are said to have given up the Imperium and left to live under the guide of the Tau, as the Gue'vesa.
