Early History
Ibram Gaunt was born on Manzipor, the son of the second in command of the Jantine Patricians regiment. After the death of his father at the hands of Orks on Kentaur, Gaunt was sent to the Schola Progenium on Ignatius Cardinal. After his graduation he saw action in many theatres while attached to the [[Hyrkan Regiments], where he earned the nickname 'The Boy'. It was during this time, that on Darendara, in the aftermath of his first command victory, while still a Cadet-Commissar that he learned that his 'Uncle' General Aldo Dercius of the Jantine Patricians was responsible for the death of his father. Eventually he was promoted to full Commissar, at the death-bed of his Mentor, Commissar-General Delane Oktar, poisoned by Orks on Gylatus Decimus.
He then served with the Hyrkan 8th to their victory at Balhaut. It was during this time that Gaunt tracked down Dercius and executed him for the death of his father under the authority of his new commissarial status, winning a chainsword duel at the cost of a rippling scar accross his belly.. Gaunt came to the attention of the Sabbat Crusade's Warmaster, Slaydo, during the action on Balhaut. The two warriors came to trust each other and because of his great respect for Gaunt, Slaydo gave Gaunt both promotion to the rare rank of Colonel-Commissar, and settlement rights on the first world he conquered, to Gaunt on his deathbed. Gaunt was, however, not kept on the new Warmaster Macaroth's staff, and soon left the Hyrkan 8th for his command on Tanith.
