The Whirlwind Artillery Tank is an Rhino-based artillery support vehicle. The Whirlwind along with the Land Raider Helios are the closest weapons Space Marine Chapters use that could be considered true artillery. It is primarily used to soften up a heavily-fortified or well-defended target prior to the main attack. It mounts a Whirlwind multiple missile launcher on its turret, firing either tactical warheads or rapidly deploying minefields a variety of different missiles with the special 'Castellan' missilesdifferent purposes. The Whirlwind design is not available to Chaos Space Marines, since the STC technology from which is was derived was discovered after the Horus Heresy.1 ===Varius Ammonition===The whirlwinds missile launcher is capable of firing 3 different kind of missiles2:<br />1. Vengeance Missiles: The standard explosive warhead, functions like a regular missile.<br />2. Castellan Missiles: A specially made warhead the explodes in midair at a designated spot and scatters a number of smaller mines. Used to quickly establish minefields without tideus labour.<br />3. Incendiary Castellan Missiles: A modified castellan warhead where the warhead have been fitted to scatter huge amounts of burning prometheum. This gruesome warhead is used to 'cook' enemies taking cover.<br />
Hyperios variant
The Whirlwind Hyperios is a rarer version of the standard Whirlwind, designed as an anti-aircraft vehicle. It mounts in place of the standard missile launcher, an anti-aircraft missile launcher designed to target and shoot down enemy aircraft. They are used when Thunderhawk Gunships are not available to defend important positions from air attacks.23
