This edition of the book was published for the first time in 1995, and is for the 2nd edition of Warhammer 40,000. The format of the army in Codex: Ultramarines was later developed into the generic format found in the ensuing Codex: Space Marines, as opposed to the army formats found in either of its contemporaries Codex: Angels of Death and Codex: Space Wolves.
