The Land Raider Crusader was originally designed by the [[Black Templars]] to provide vast amounts of anti-infantry fire before disgorging the Black Templars to mow down the survivors. It was designed during the [[Jerulas Crusade]] in (645.[[M39]]) by [[Artificer]] [[Simagus]] using recovered ancient techno-arcana in the long-forgotten depths of a captured [[Hive City]]. As tales of the Crusader's successes spread, many other Chapters began to request information regarding its remodelling. The [[Techpriest]]s of [[Mars]] officially recognised the Crusader pattern in 763.[[M39]], although this was a mere formality since the design had already spread to hundreds of Chapters.
