The Grendal-machine is the name of a device created by the Imperium's Inquisition's Ordo Xenos division and was named after Inquisitor Derteg Grendal. Parts of the machine included not only Tyranid DNA but components of Eldar creation which was necessary in forming a psychic amplication system. It was the result of a programme initiated by Inquisitor Lord Brutius Parthon in order to create an anti-Tyranid weapon.1
The unique construction of the device meant that it held a direct connection to the Tyranid Hive Mind for being an example of technology that made use of Xeno aspects in the design. It resembles a simple chair with Tyranid material that created an organic bond with its occupant thus creating a symbiotic union with the two. With this working in conjunction with the psychic amplifiers of Eldar design, the machine is able to boost the psychic potential of its host to incredible levels. Thus, it serves as a weapon against the Tyranids by creating a disruptive signal that attacks the Hive Mind where it severs synaptic nodes and causes confusion within the swarm by using its own relay system. As such, the weapon assault the Hive Mind from within its own organic command structure.1
