i know that magnus the red never stopped using magic and became addicted to it but why if he used it to warn the imperium that the space wolves attacked them as if they tried to attack the imperium

The Emperor only wanted Russ to capture Magnus and bring him to the Emperor. Horus convinced Russ that Magnus needed to be destroyed not captured, knowing if Russ out right attacked The Thousand Sons then Magnus would side with Chaos.
