The Guard forms the very backbone of the Imperium; without it, Mankind would surely perish. Whilst Guardsmen are hardly the equals of [[Space Marines]], fighting neither with the advantages of genetic enhancement or the most powerful personal weaponry, the Guard possesses the courage and the manpower to face and annihilate the enemies of the [[Emperor]] across the galaxy.<sup>2.p.5</sup>
==Guardswomen==
It should be noted that some regiments of the Guard contain women (and in some cases, are entirely made up of them). These regiments are nowhere near as numerous as all-male regiments, but they do exist. As a minority, guardswomen are usually icluded under the generic term ''Guardsmen''.<sup>6</sup>*<sup>7</sup>
