Obliviates are a type of tech-heresy within the Adeptus Mechanicus and is one that is considered an abomination to the Inquisition. Its been known to cause terror in the hearts of Imperium citizens in the Calixis Sector.
Constructed by the notorious heretic Heretek Illucis Grizvaldi and his followers through the use of devices known as oblivion volitors. These machines are a corrupted as well as clumsy pattern of neuroaugmetic which is surgically implanted within the brain of the subject and turns them into beings known as Obliviates. These soulless beings that are little more than empty shells that live on whilst the soul has been long destroyed due to the procedure. Once created, heretics hereteks further augment the obliviates with crude metallic fangs and blades whereupon they are unleashed like feral pack animals. Thus, they debase the divine form of man by treating them as vile animals in an effort to strike a weapon of terror against Imperial citizens. This is because of what the Obliviates represent - the oblivion of cherished souls that the God Emperor protects.
To Psykers, these constructs have no difference compared to an aggressive combat Servitor and the Mechanicus Calixis have often told the Inquisition that the Obliviates are little different from certain patterns of servitors. Despite their words, the Ordos and the Adeptus Ministorum have decreed that oblivion volitors destroy the soul and as such, the Adeptus Mechanicus are honour bound to aid them in destroying what they consider to be a minor tech heresy. The unfortunates who are victims of the process are often believed to be completely devoid of a soul though they do not share any kinship with the class of rare humans that have no Warp presence known as "Untouchables" or as Pariahs. Instead, the soulessness is of a different kind as their minds are broken by twisted heretical technology.1
