Treachery
In Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Retribution, it was revealed by Tarkus that it was Avitus who had "answered Kyras' call" betrayed his battle-brothers to the Black legion. Tarkus "slew him." Cite This
This conclusion can inferred from the fact that Tarkus is the Ancient while Martellus, Cyrus, and Jonah all appear as loyalists. As Thule cannot be the traitor, either Thaddeus, Avitus, or the Force Commander must have been the traitors. We know someone must be the traitor because Tarkus says so after he reveals himself as the Ancient. Tarkus also says that the traitor was a friend of his from the Kronus campaign, and that the traitor "answered Kyras' call." Since neither the Force Commander nor Thaddeus served on Kronus, and since Avitus (in Chaos Rising) specifically turns to Kyras (as opposed to all the other traitors), the traitor could only be Avitus.
