Salamanders have coal black skin and red eyes due to the high radiation levels of their homeworld.
== Conflicting Reference ==
The Salamanders are, according to this Lexicanum, a loyalist legion. However, in the latest book in the Horus Heresy series, Age of Darkness, it is implied that the Salamander Legion is traitor. See pg. 40, where Captain Remus, 4th Company, Ultramarines has words with a dying Salamander. The implication is that the entire legion is loyal to Horus.
