The Death Company is a special unit unique to the Blood Angels and their successors. Blood Angels kneel in prayer on the eve of battle to pay homage to Sanguinius. During these prayers before battle some Blood Angels succumb to the Black Rage and are formed into a single unit which is usually led by the force's Chaplain. The former master of the chapter's Chaplains is Lemartes, Guardian Of The Lost. However, he has now succumbed to the black rage and joined the death company. The current master is Astorath the Grim.

The Death Company will fight regardless of the odds against them or their injuries in homage to the Emperor and their fallen Primarch, Sanguinius. The Death Company would rather die of their injuries in battle and have the peace of the grave than walk away victorious or defeated. Those who do survive battle are taken back to the Blood Angels home planet, Baal, to die having been declared too frenzied to be controlled.
