The 13th Great Company was one of the original Great Companies of the Space WolfWolves Legion of the Adeptus Astartes. The 13th Great Company disappeared during the Horus Heresy, only to re-emerge from the Eye of Terror during the Thirteenth Black Crusade.
==Company SummaryHistory==. The black stone on Fenris, before the coming of Grand Annulus has come to represent all the Great Companies in the Emperorchapter. As such they were known as the "Greybeards" to the rest of the Legion's history that have disappeared, been destroyed in battle, while they referred to themselves as the "Wolf Brothers"3or turned renegade. 1c Immediately preceding the HeresyBefore their disappearance, their totem was the Company was led by sign of the Wolf LordWulfen Bulveye, but no Great Company has used that badge since the Heresy. 1c
Space Wolf legend states that At some time in late M41, the Thirteenth 13th Great Company was sent encountered by Leman Russ to pursue Ragnar Blackmane on the survivors shadow-copy of the Charys conjured by the Thousand Sons]], after a failed attempt to eliminate them at their homeworld of . Lord ProsperoBulveye2. The members of was in command, though he was not forthcoming about the 13th Great Company swore to hunt their foes down until every last one of the cursed marines was slain's origins, no matter or how long it tookthe Great Company had fared in the 10, nor where the traitors fled000 years since their departure. Wolf Lord Bulveye himself casts 2 A small doubt over number of the veracity of these legends with 13th Company's Wolves fought alongside Ragnar and his guarded response comrades to defeat the Ragnar BlackmaneChaos Sorcerer's historical recount of their mission during the events of Wolf's HonourMadox2 They vanished from Imperial records, and their loss is honoured thwarting a plot by a black stone in the Grand Annulus (Thousand Sons to destroy the record of Space Wolf Great Companies)Wolves.2
Somehow, the hardy Sons sons of Russ survived their journey through the Eye and emerged, long after they should have perished, in pursuit of during the Abaddon13th Black Crusade.1 41d Given that they vanished before the Emperor was interred on the Golden Throne, they have been missing for approximately 10,000 years.Cite This There are even rumours that Russ himself was their leader, although this was never proven.Cite This
Their reappearance at == Character ==One thing that sets the 13th Great Company apart from the rest of the Space Wolves is the beginning large percentage of Abaddon warriors who have succumbed to the Despoiler’s Thirteenth Black Crusade has brought them back into Curse of the spotlightWulfen. They appear Whether the increased percentage of 13th Company Marines who have succumbed to still be in pursuit the Curse is a result of their prolonged exposure to the goal Leman Russ set for themEye of Terror, and or whether it was believed that Leman Russ himself was existed before their leaderdisappearance is unknown.4 However, although this was never provenSpace Wolf legend describes Wulfen as the "13th Wolf," which stalks all of the Space Wolves.5
One other thing that sets the warriors of the 13th Company apart from the rest of their Space Wolves brethren is the large percentage of warriors who have succumbed == Organization ==Due to the animal nature that is part lack of the genetic legacy of their Primarch: the Mark of the Wulfen. This genetic mutation causes their canine nature to manifest itself more fully andavailable reinforcements, amongst other thingsresupply, thick hair to grow over all the body and claws to sprout from the hands. These warriors gather together in units and surrender themselves to their animalistic nature, rushing headlong at their foesor proper facilities, eager to use their sharp claws and teeth in close combat. Whether the increased percentage of 13th Company Marines who have succumbed to the Mark of the Wulfen is a result of their exposure to Eye of Terror, or whether it existed before and their increased percentage in the Company is simply due to the fact that their increased stamina 's organization and strength has allowed more of them to survive than their brethren is unknown1equipment departs heavily from Space Wolf norms.
==Organization==The 13th Company maintains the dark grey colour scheme of the Pre-Heresy Space Wolves, on what little remains of their original equipment. Much of their armor and weaponry has been replaced with material scavenged from their fallen Chaos foes. Not surprisingly, their Company has almost no heavy equipment such as tanks, Terminators or Dreadnoughts.42
The Thirteenth Company's organization departs heavily from Space Wolf norms, due to the lack Because of reinforcements and 'fresh blood' supplying the Company, the inability to train members in specialist roles, the lack impossibility of heavy equipmentrecruiting new brethren, and the effect of having to exist within the Eye of Terror for ten thousand years. The core of a 13th Company warband there are the Grey Slayers. Similar to no Grey HuntersBlood Claw, they fulfil s in the same role in battle13th Company. Each and every Blood Claw has long since advanced to a higher rank.4
Because The core of a 13th Company warband is the impossibility of recruiting new brethrenGrey Slayers, there are no which fulfill the same role as Blood ClawGrey Hunterss in the 13th Company. Each and every Blood Claw has long since advanced to a higher stage. The Company's assault specialists are the Storm Claws. They are equally experienced, but still more hot-headed and aggressive than the Grey Slayers.4
The key to the 13th Company's movement through the Warp assault specialists are the Rune PriestsStorm Claws. Because the Eye of Terror has unlocked hidden psychic powers in many recruitsThey are equally experienced, but still more hot-headed and aggressive than the Company has no shortage of these highly gifted individualsGrey Slayers.4
The Wulfen key to the 13th Company's movement through the Warp are the most drastic departure from a normal Space Wolf. The Space Marines who mutate into Wulfen bear resemblance to werewolves in the same way as Rune Priest suffering s. Because the Eye of Terror has unlocked hidden Red Thirstpsychic resemble vampires. Any Space Wolf to suffer as a Wulfen becomes a half manpowers in many recruits, half wolf creature with a feral mind. The mutation normally manifests itself in the Neophyte stage and Space Wolves must spend time in their training in a scenario designed to out those who have become WulfenCompany has no shortage of these highly gifted individuals.4
Their most drastic departure from the rest of the Chapter is their willing use of the Wulfen in battle. Though normal Space Wolves sometimes use individual Wulfen in battle, the 13th Company use entire packs. Each and every member of the 13th Company carries the Curse, and it manifests itself in the Space Wolves at different times. Thus The mutation's effects are even the Wulfen packs do not stay the same. It has manifested itself so strongly and so late more pronounced because it reacts to of the influence of Chaos; because of and yet, conversely, having to wrestle with this side of their nature acting as a kind of spiritual defence mechanism, Space Wolves are curse for so long has left the 13th Company exceptionally resistant to the malign influence of Chaos. It is believed that this is the only reason that the 13th Company - who have always remained loyal to Russ and the Emperor - have only been able to survive living as Loyalist Marines in for so long inside the Eye of Terror so long precisely because of this trait.4
The == Canon Conflicts ==In Codex: Space Wolves (5th Edition), the Wolf Lord of the 13th Company before its disappearance is also distinguished by maintaining the dark grey Pre-Heresy colour scheme of the Space Wolves on what little remains of their original equipment. Much of their armor and weaponry has been replaced with material scavenged from their fallen named as Bloodhowl foes. Not surprisingly1c, their Company has almost no heavy equipment such as tankshowever, the novel Wolf's Honour or and the short story Wolf at the Door name the Lord as DreadnoughtsBulveye. 1 2
