This edition of the book was published for the first time in 1995, and is for the [[Warhammer 40,000 2nd EditionRulebook|2nd edition]] of Warhammer 40,000. Although the Codex focused on the Ultramarines Chapter, it was suitable for use with any 'Codex' Space Marine Army.
The book has XXX pages and the cover is printed in color while the majority of the book remains in black and white, although there are usually several pages of colour images of miniatures.
