A Supression Force is designed to pin down the enemy's forces, allowing the highly-mobile Space Marines to operate at will. It is composed of two to five [[Whirlwind]]s and a modified [[Land Speeder]]. The Land Speeder, equipped with additional communications and targeting gear, acts as a spotter for the Whirlwinds and coordinates their fire. The addition of the Land Speeder allows the Whirlwinds to provide suppressive fire at much longer ranges than typical for such platforms.<sup>1</sup>
[[Jagrveij Jagrvelj Skyhammer]], Master of the Arsenal of the [[Storm Ravens]] [[Chapter]], first used this formation during the [[Rhopara Crusade]]. Stripping his Land Speeders of all unnecessary armament and equipping them with terrain-following sensor arrays, he used his newly-formed Supression Forces to assault the Rhopara sector capital. His success saw the formation adopted by the rest of the Chapter, and by the [[Adeptus Astartes]] as a whole.<sup>1</sup>
