A '''Veteran Sergeant''' is similar to a Sergeant, and is used primarily by the Imperial Guard and Space Marines, but who has been in battle several times before and has gained sufficient experience to be allowed access to the armoury, though they do not count as officers. Veteran Sergeants tend to have slightly improved stats as well as a fairly small points increase. No other race seems to use this type of rank, staying with the basic Sergeant. For a Space Marine to be inducted into the [[First Company|first (veteran) company]], they usually serve time as Veteran Sergeant beforehand, though some are inducted straight due to extreme acts of valor.
