citeThe Leman Russ Conqueror is a less common variant of the Leman Russ Battle Tank. It is armed with a Conqueror cannon, a shorter and lighter version of the Battle Cannon. This reduces the power and range of the weapon but allows it to move faster and fire more accurately, making it a very versatile variant.
History
The Conqueror was first created on Gryphonne IV when its plans were discovered sometime in the 38th millennium. The plans were sent to Mars though other Forge Worlds are lobbying for access to them. Originally, battlefield commanders voiced concerns that the smaller cannon would reduce the available firepower and result in poor battlefield performance. This was shown not to be true in testing as the reduced recoil of the gun made up for its reduced power by improving its accuracy when firing on the move. Also, the smaller shell size allowed loaders to fire faster and carry more ammunition than the standard Leman Russ Battle Tank.
The first batch of Conquerors was assigned to the Gryphonne IV Skitarii forces for the Castra Campaign. Along with the a battle group of the War Griffons Titans, the Conqueror kept up easily with the titans and quickly encircled Hive Castra Septus, annihilating the traitors within.
After this, production stepped up and Conquerors were exported to Imperial Guard regiments where it has unofficially become known as a breakthrough or line-breaker tank, as that is what it excels at.
Some At some time during the 39th millennium, a special munition was munitions were created on Gryphonne IV by the munitions adepts. They , who were trying to increase the tanks tank's firepower with the use of '"Auger' " shells. This was considered a failure and production ceased, and is now not permitted.
In the 41st Millennium
The Conqueror turret has been since thickened with additional armour plates on the forward sides. There is also a built in co-axial Storm Bolter, removing the need for any pintle-mounted weapons. A small Searchlight is always included and it has improved air-intakes and venting, sealed against environmental hazards with valves and mufflers, allowing it to operate in harsh terrains. The rear has an ammunition access hatch which make makes re-arming much faster and the hatch doubles as a spent shell disposal unit, meaning the crew dosndoesn't need to leave the vehicle.
Armament and Upgrades
The Conqueror is armed with a Conqueror Cannon, co-axial Storm Bolter and must have either a hull-mounted Lascannon or Heavy Bolter. It may also be upgraded with two sponsons of Heavy Bolters or Heavy Flamers. It may also be upgraded with Camo Netting, Extra Armour, a Hunter-killer Missile, Improved Comms, a Mine Sweeper, a pintle-mounted Heavy Stubber/Storm Bolter, a Rough Terrain Modification, a Searchlight, Track Guards and Smoke Launchers.
