The Leman Russ Vanquisher is a rare and specialised variant of the Leman Russ Battle Tank used by the Imperial Guard. It has a mounts the significantly more powerful cannon, with a longer barrel and the ability to fire anti-tank Vanquisher rounds, called the Vanquisher cannon. These , firing special Vanquisher shells which are extremely effective at penetrating armour even at great ranges.
History
The Vanquisher was mainly built on the Forge World Tigrus until it was overrun by the Ork Warlord Arrgard the Defiler in M35. Since then the numbers of Vanquishers have been dropping and no one can replace them easily. Few current Forge Worlds have succeeded in producing the Vanquisher with their own designs. Two that are known to have succeeded are Gryphonne IV (Later turned into a Dead World by Hive Fleet Leviathan) and Stygies VIII.
The 41st Millennium
The Vanquisher is beginning to make a comeback among Imperial forces. The good accuracy, long range and high ratio of first-hit kill makes it a choice anti-tank weapon by many Imperial commanders. Such is the power of the gun and the ammunition it uses, there is no known armour which cannot be penetrated by a Vanquisher, including that of Titans.
Forge World Variations
Armaments and Upgrades
The Vanquisher is armed with a turret-mounted Vanquisher cannon and a co-axial Storm bolter and one hull-mounted weapon of either a Lascannon or Heavy Bolter. It may also take two side sponsons of Heavy Bolters or Heavy Flamers. It may also be upgraded with Camo Netting, Extra Armour, a Hunter-killer Missile, Improved Comms, a Mine Sweeper, a pintle-mounted Heavy Stubber/Storm Bolter, a Rough Terrain Modification, a Searchlight, Track Guards and Smoke Launchers.
