GuardsmenGuardsman (sometimes called a Private, Trooper or other regimental equivalent) is the generic term for the lowest enlisted rank in the Imperial Guard (only Conscripts, or Whiteshields, are lower), no matter their speciality (including Drop Troops).
Troopers are typically equipped with Flak Armour, a Lasgun, a bayonet, a copy of The Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer, various survival gear and a few other pieces of equipment. This standard layout may change as a Guardsman goes through campainscampaigns, older members will have picked up gear from soldiers that have died around them, sometimes even weapons, but new recruits and veterans are still limited by the local manufacturing abilities of their warzone. All regiments have a different design of uniform, ranging from specialist camoflage to gaudy parade gear that could be seen a mile away. They are a mark of the pride of a unit, and can also sometimes be used to see how a unit will fight. Those with immaculate dress will probably stand and volley time after time, but those with ragged uniforms are more likely to get a shot off when they can and dive for cover.
Specialist troopers are typically equipped with Plasma Guns, Flamers, Meltaguns or Grenade Launchers while heavy weapon crews typically tote Heavy Bolters, Missile Launchers, Lascannons, Mortars, or Autocannons, although Heavy Stubbers are not uncommon. Equipment preferences usually vary from regiment to regiment and also depend on local manufacturing capabilities, as well as the type of enemy that will be faced. When attacking horde armies such as Orks, rapid fire weapons will be used such as Heavy Bolters, but when attacking an armoured column, more heavy weapons such as Lascannons and Missile Launchers will be used.
