Dhakal's physical condition had deteriorated severely since the end of the Unity Wars, and saw an opportunity when the Outcast Dead escaped imprisonment and found themselves in the Petitioner's City. He confronted them at the [[Temple of Woe]] to attempt a deal by which he would acquire a [[Gene-seed#Progenoids|progenoid gland]] from an [[Astartes]], in the hope of using it to correct his own genetic flaws.{{Fn|1b}}
He did successfully acquire a progenoid, although it is unknown exactly which of the Outcast Dead it came from.{{Fn|1c}} The Astartes [[Severian (The Wolf)|Severian]] was unaccounted for in the battle at the Temple of Woe, so the gland may have been taken from him by force.
