It was inducted into the Imperium during the [[Horus Heresy]] by the [[Raven Guard]], and was named after Admiral [[Kathur (Saint)|Kathur]] of the [[Imperial Army]], who had defended it from the [[Death Guard]] shortly after the closing of the Heresy. During the [[13th Black Crusade]], it was later source of a massive outbreak of the [[Zombie Plague]] during the , caused by a source independent of [[13th Black CrusadeEzekyle Abaddon|the Warmaster]]or his forces.

A beacon of faith, Kathur was a memorial to an [[Imperial Saint]] of [[Kathur (Saint)|the same name]]. Hearing of Kathur's fateand unwilling to allow a symbolic defeat, the Imperium pulled back several [[regiment]]s back from the front line of the Black Crusade, which had originally been tasked to retake [[Cadia]]. They were assisted by half a [[company]] of the [[Raven Guard]] [[Astartes]] (who were there to protect their chapter's legacy) and forces of the [[Inquisition]](who were investigating the Zombie Plague). This action was known as the [[Kathurite Reclamation]].

The initial spearhead of the reclamation was several months ahead of the main body, and so were woefully unprepared when they encountered the [[Death Guard]] [[Traitor Legion]].
