The attack began when the [[Amphion]], a [[Gloriana Class Battleship]], led an armada of five capital ships against Xana's formidable orbiting fleet as Koraddon's ship ''Cicatrice Tyrannis'' landed the warlord and his honour guard to meet traitor [[Archmagos]] [[Gilim Raijan]]. Xana readied an army of explosive-collared captives to use against the loyalists. Many of these slaves were killed by [[Ordinatus Ulator]]'s as a demonstration by Xana to Koraddon.{{Fn|1a}}
Meanwhile in space, the Imperial warships were aided by the sudden arrival of the [[Dark Angels]] warship ''[[Dark Sovereign]]'', which swept aside the traitor system orbital stations. The ''Dark Sovreign'' then launched Dark Angels Legionaries, [[Blackshields]] under [[Endryd Haar]], and [[Shattered Legions]] warriors at targets across the Xana System. Enraged, Koraddon tore Raijan's head from its shoulders before departing. The loyalists fought through waves of Dark Mechanicus [[Battle Automata]] and [[Adsecularis]] before destroying much of the Forge complexes of Xana and destroying or capturing 2 of the 3 Ordinatus. In the aftermath of the battle, Xana's alliance with Horus was heavily delayed and they undertook raids against both Imperial and traitor assets.{{Fn|1a}}
