The battle began when the [[Chaos Space Marine]]s fell upon the [[Tomb World]] of [[Thanatos]], defended by the legions of the [[Oruscar Dynasty]]. The Word Bearers sought the [[Celestial Orrery]], and with a device of such power could achieve the unthinkable. However the Necrons refuse to yield, and a blood, long-running siege endures. [[Necron Warrior]]s and [[Immortal]]s battled across the mountainous high-gravity surface against [[Daemon Engine]]s and fanatical Word Bearers. The siege only ended when reinforcements from the [[Kardenath Dynasty]] arrived and crushed the Word Bearers.{{Fn|1}}
The war, however, did not finish there, for the Kardenath nobility are pursuing their own omnicidal campaign of destruction and desire the Celestial Orrey for themselves. When the Oruscar [[Phaeron]] [[Hakmephet]] refused, Thanatos was reduced to a battleground between Necrons. The siege continues to this day.{{Fn|1}}
