The battle began when Imperial Navy ships of [[Battlefleet]] [[Obscurus]]pursue pursued the outnumbered Plague Fleetthrough the [[Kuidus Belt]]. After a savagebattle, the last surviving plague shipmanages managed to perform a full combat droponto the world of [[Anvarheim]] beforebreaking up in the planet’s atmosphere.Emerging from their dropships, the [[Putrid Choir]] capture captured Anvarheim’spolar fortress city of Jotungaard. Expectingswift victory, wave after wave of Imperial forces descend descended upon the complex. Eachis was broken in turn upon the tenacious Death Guard defenses. A prolonged siegedevelops developed amidst bitter winter taintedby Nurgle plague spores, and as thefighting stretches stretched into weeks, then months,the Putrid Choir’s maddening dirge echoesechoed endlessly across Jotungaard from thefortress’ [[vox]] emitters. At last, three yearsafter the Putrid Choir first descended uponAnvarheim, the remaining starving, diseased, and deranged Imperial forces fleefled, leaving the Death Guard warriors victorious but depleted.{{Fn|1}}
