PAGENAMEMarius Avincus is a Space Marine from the Ultramarines and a Watch Captain of the Deathwatch.1
History
Born to a noble family on Prandium, Marius AvincusCaeso was recruited into the Ultramarines with histwin brother Gnaeus, and both served togetherfor centuries. After more than three hundredyears in service to the Ultramarines, the brothersfaced a horror the likes of which none couldimagine—the Tyranids attacked Prandium.Gnaeus was slain, crushed by a Carnifexwhile trying to defend refugees being evacuated from their homeworld.1
Avincus was furious at what the Tyranids had done, and he was given the opportunity to strike back againstthem during the Battle for Macragge, where he foughtvaliantly amongst the 3rd Company, seeing many of hisBattle-Brothers slain during the brutal tunnel fighting. Inthe years that followed, he was amongst those survivorswho were chosen to join the 1st Company as one ofChaplain Cassius’ Tyrannic War Veterans. Twelve yearslater, he was nominated for Deathwatch service, and he gladly swore the Apocryphon Oath inorder to share his experiences with those outsidethe Ultramarines, to give them a fighting chance should the Tyranids return.1
In the sixty years since beginning his long Vigil, Avincushas fought countless xenos threats and proved his dedicationand prowess time and again, being elevated to the rankof Watch Captain in 792.M41. When word came of theTyranid onslaught, Avincus relocated to the Orpheus Salientimmediately, selecting the swiftest ship available and the surestNavigator he could find to brave the smothering influence ofthe Shadow in the Warp. His loathing for the Tyranids isunending, and he is unwilling to allow them to freely preyupon yet more worlds.1
At present, Avincus remains mobile, employing his chosenship—the Nova-class Frigate Hallowed Sword—as a mobilecommand centre from which he directs the Kill-teams underhis auspices, leading on the ground as frequently as theopportunity allows. His presence has been instrumental indozens of missions against the Tyranids, but it has been costlyas well. During the battle for Trimalov Hive on Castobel,Avincus confronted the infamous Dagon Overlord, suffering grievous injuries at the talons of thatterrifying creature, which left him crippled and forcedhim into a coma from which he did not wakefor eleven months.1
With his body rebuilt by the efforts of Forge MasterMac Zi Ven, Captain Avincus returned to the field almostimmediately, slaying the Dagon Overlord when it appearedon the world of Zurev’s Rest a year later. In spite of havingslain the beast, its continued presence in the Jericho Reachhaunts him, and he loathes it with a passion.Avincus is an embittered veteran of countless wars who hashad both his homes ravaged by the Great Devourer, and lostmuch more besides. Even with extensive bionic replacement,he still feels the pain of his crippling injuries, and the onlything that keeps him going in spite of all he has suffered is hishatred for the Tyranids. He regards the war against Hive FleetDagon to be the last one he will fight, and he has bent everyfibre of his being to crushing the Tyranid threat. His bionics includea Master-Crafted bionic left arm, bionic heart, bionic respiratory system, and bionic locomotion.1
