I don't know what you read but Sister of Battle 2ed tells that he is dully remembered. He is sometimes quoted in the novels therefore I doubt that he is ignored and forgotten.
It is conjectured that Thor was a simple preacher born on the world of [[Dimmamar]] and little else is known of him before his rise to power. During the [[Reign of Blood]] as [[Goge Vandire]] was at the head of the Ecclesiarchy, Thor began to proselytise his people and lead them into opposition against Vandire, the warriors sent to kill him were destroyed by a [[warp storm]] that came to be known as the [[Storm of the Emperor's Wrath]], suggesting that the [[Emperor]] himself was aiding Thor.
Thor soon began a crusade to Terra, attracting several [[Space Marine]] chapters and the [[Adeptus Mechanicus]] to support him. After Vandire's defeat Thor became the Ecclesiarch and attempted to reform reformed the [[Imperial Cult]] and the Ecclesiarchy to be more in line with what the Emperor had wanted for the Imperium. Unfortunately these reforms did not long survive Thor's death, and for his opposition to the excesses of the Ecclesiarchy, the very same institution now shuns his memory for the truth it would shine on their own corruption. Thus a man who single handedly saved the Imperium is now all but forgotten by the ordinary citizens of the Imperium, those very same people he attempted to help.
