The wife of [[Black Library]] author [[Aaron Dembski-Bowden]], Katie, claims the Shadow Wolves are a reference to [[loyalist]] [[Luna Wolves]], as a gift to her who was a fan of the Luna Wolves.{{Fn|4}} On the forum ''Warseer'', a user claiming to be Aaron Dembski-Bowden himself (user and posting under the username "Dead.Blue.Clown") stated that the Shadow Wolves were likely [[Imperial Fists]] descendants with dark purple armour. He went on to say that they have a large number of [[Mark VI Power Armour]] helmets and were both extremely [[Codex Astartes]]-compliant and extremely independent.{{Fn|5}} Neither claim has been officially confirmed.
