The destruction of Death's Welcome's Knight Houses in battle has long been foretold and has greatly impacted the Households' society. Each House is composed of morbid nihilists who worship the [[Emperor of Mankind|Emperor]] as the harbinger of war and ending, and go to war in Knight suits of sable and bone while singing fervent dirges from beneath their chain mail veils. Because of their beliefs, when the splinter of [[Hive Fleet Hydra]] invaded Death's Welcome, the Households greeted the news with sombre rituals of celebration before gladly marching to meet their foretold ends. However, the Knights of Death's Welcome took such a heavy toll on the invading Tyranids that Hive Fleet Hydra's [[Bio-ship]]s retreated after their reserves of biomass became dangerously depleted. While through their efforts Death's Welcome was saved, the World's Knight Houses were devastated and just eighteen Knights remained alive from a starting force of over four hundred.{{Fn|1b}}
