The name Valdez is possibly a reference to [[Wikipedia:Valdez, Alaska|the city of Valdez]] in [[Wikipedia:Alaska|Alaska]], an area famous for oil production. More specifically, it could reference the ''[[Wikipedia:Exxon Valdez|Exxon Valdez]]'', an oil tanker which set off from Valdez that infamously ran aground and created [[Wikipedia:Exxon Valdez oil spill|a massive environmental incident]] in 1989 after setting off from Valdez.
