The ''Revenant Rex'' consisted of broken vessels from a range of various distant [[xenos]] species, twisted together with rock, mineral deposits from beyond the [[Fringes|edge]] of the [[Galaxy]], and ice said to be from before the beginning of time.{{Fn|1}}
Various [[Space Marine]] [[Chapter]]s had tried and failed to stop it, including the [[Aurora Chapter]] at [[Schindelgheist]], the [[Angels Eradicant]] at [[Theta Reticuli]], and the [[White Scars]] at [[Martyrpeake]].{{Fn|1}}
By the time it arrived at the [[Gilead Sector]], it was considered a bad omen.{{Fn|1}} At this time, [[Alpha Legion]] [[Harrowmaster]] [[Quetzal Carthach]] had been carefully plotting the destruction of the [[Crimson Consuls]] Chapter for a long while, and sabotaged the Hulk's [[Warp Engine]]s to explode the next time it tried to jump, hoping that the Consuls would fall for the trap and send at least some Marines there.{{Fn|1}}
