Prior to enlisting with the [[Astra Militarum]], Lerod was the commander of the [[Tanith Ultima]] [[PDF|Militia]]. As a result of being brought up in Tanith's shrine city, he and the [[Trooper]]s under his command were some of the most devout and pious in the entire regiment.{{Fn|1a}} The regiment's commanding officer, [[Colonel-Commissar]] [[Ibram Gaunt]], considered Lerod a gifted and loyal officer.{{Fn|1b}}
By the time of the regiment's action on [[Monthax]], Lerod had been assigned command of Seven Platoon{{Fn|2}} (the original incarnation of Seven Platoon having been wiped out on [[Menazoid Epsilon]] by the treacherous [[Jantine First|Jantine Patricians]]). While fighting on Monthax, Lerod suffered a psychological break from reality, believing himself to be untouchable after surviving a number of assaults by [[Chaos Cultists]] completely unscathed. Ironically, Lerod was the only Guardsman killed in the Tanith's last phase of the campaign, taking a lucky shot while fighting on the roof an ancient [[Aeldari]] temple.{{Fn|1c}}
