Most of the population of Cadia is under arms, and most aspire to join the ranks of the [[Imperial Guard]]. It has gone so far that most children have learnt to strip a gun before they can walk, and "any Cadian who can't field-strip his own lasgun by the age of 10 was born on the wrong planet. " They are even given live ammo; as an old proverb goes "If the ammo ain't live, this ain't no Cadian practice".
Often, when children come of age, they are inducted into the [[Conscript Infantry Platoon#Whiteshields|Whiteshields]], where they learn Guardsman skills and garner experience through conflict. The Cadians also conscript citizens into the Whiteshields, especially when massive wars are imminent. When needed, they are brought into combat and it is here that they prove themselves worthy to join the mighty [[Storm Trooper#Kasrkin|Kasrkin]].
