He was under the command of Captain Veirsturm and led a Field-Company of his own. Astopites truly believed that his Unnumbered Sons would go on to be officers in the future and briefed them thoroughly on all strategic decisions of their missions. He also encouraged them to tactically improvise their battle plans when necessary.1
The Lieutenant and Battle Group Retributus, are currently trying to free the Iron Veil worlds from the Night Lords. To that effort, Captain Veirsturm's Company was among its forces that were sent to free the Hive World Caldon IV. When they arrived, though, its Capital Hive Holkenved surrendered to the Battle Group. It would be the only one, though, and Retributus used the Hive as a base to begin reclaiming the world. However as the Battle Group was transporting its forces to the Hive, they were ambushed by a large Night Lords Warband led by the Dreadmaster. Rather than fight the Chaos Lord's fleet, though, the Battle Group acted as if they were fleeing. Retributus' commanders sought to draw in the Warband into attacking Holkenved, so that it could be destroyed and the Battle Group left its forces and the Hive's PDF, there as bait. In order to make the ruse as believable as possible, however, the Captain held his Unnumbered Sons back from the frontlines of the battle. They were still able to hear the cries of their comrades and Holkenved's population being slaughtered by the Night Lords. Astopites knew this infuriated his Field-Company, but he firmly told them to obey Veirsturm's order. If they attacked before the command to do so was given, then their chance of victory would be at risk and the Imperial lives being lost, would be for nothing.1
